FISHING: Excellent
Summer weather is almost here. It has been a very unseasonably cool Spring so far. This has kept the water temperatures much cooler than normal for this time of year.
With the warming weather coming soon, the water should bump up in temperature and get the bug hatches going in earnest.
Fishing has been great at the Lava lakes when the wind has not been howling over 20mphs. Hosmer is just getting going now too. Access has been open to East Lake for the past several weeks and the fish have been cooperating nicely. Crane Prairie Reservoir has continued to amaze our clients daily with the size of her World Class Rainbow trout. She is not an easy place to tackle but their are few places in North America that can match her quality of fish!!! Please be sure to handle her fish carefully and release them properly so that we all can continue to enjoy her spectacular fishery for years to come...
Fishing small nymphs under an the indicator will prove to be the most productive method early season. Larger fish are always willing to chase bait so bring a healthy selection of buggers and streamers as well...

Lake Billy Chinook - March 30th, 2010
RECORDED:
50 °
FISHING: Great
The Bull Trout are definitely on the rebound. With all the Kokanee that are crashing the surface, it seems that the Bulls will have plenty to feed on in the coming years. This is good news to anyone who loves throwing large streamers to voracious eaters.
The Bulls are thicker and healthier than we have seen for years. The predominate age class still lies below 24 inches but the weight is returning to our predatory friends. This bodes very well for the future years if the Kokanee population remains stable and on the upswing.
Get your casting in shape as this type of fly fishing is not for the faint of heart. Throwing large streamers a long way all day is more fishing than most are use too. Get you fly out as far as you can on each cast and let it rip. If their are Bull trout around, they wont disappoint!!!!
Be careful on windy days as it can get dangerous on the lake if the wind picks up and starts gusting over 20+mph down the canyon...

Crane Prairie Reservoir - July 5th, 2009
RECORDED:
90 °
FISHING: Excellent
Fishing for the Big Crane Prairie Rainbows continues to put smiles on our clients faces. When a 5+lb rainbow jumps 3 feet out of the water right in front of you, it is tough to contain the excitement. Just remember to let that fish run or that will likely be the last you see of that particular rainbow. The Crane rainbows like to move around the reservoir so it is best to chase them around with a vessel that includes a motor. The wind can come up in a hurry anytime after 11am and you may find yourself blown to the wrong end of the reservoir if you are motorless...

Lake Billy Chinook - April 11th, 2009
RECORDED:
57 °
FISHING: Excellent
It certainly appears that the Kokanee population may finally be back on the upswing. They are popping and jumping around the lake like they had in years past.
Healthy Kokanee populations EQUAL Healthy Bull Trout!!! The Bulls are coming out in full force and their fat bellys are giving their secrets away...
The fishing has been fantastic if you enjoy casting large streamers or plugs only to have a mouth full of sharp teeth race up behind it and engulf it. Lets continue to pray that the Kokanee population continues to improve as this is one heck of a world class fishery when the Kokanee population is where it needs to be...

FISHING: Great
Summer is more than half gone so be sure to enjoy the next month of summer fishing before its gone.
The callibaetis hatch at East has not been like years past but the fish are still eating the nymph. To target the bigger Browns, get down to where they are in the 20-40ft range. Dry fly fishing has not been as consistent this year with the limited hatch.
Crane is about BIG rainbows...period. Don't let anyone ever tell you Crane is an easy fishery. It is certainly anything but easy. But don't ever let anyone tell you that Crane is a bad fishery. It may be easy to confuse a tough fishery with a poor fishery but they are not the same. Crane is simply one of the BEST stillwater fisheries in the nation at consistently producing rainbows in the 4-10lb class on a day to day basis. We experience it everyday in the Summer. If you don't care about what size fish you catch, Crane is the wrong place to fish...
Wickiup, Hosmer and Lava are all producing good fishing opportunities. Davis continues to give the fly angling bass enthusiast a chance at quality bass fishing on the fly.
Enjoy the next month or so because, believe it or not, Fall is rapidly approaching!!!
Great Fishing,

The weather is now hot and the fishing is too. The difficult decisions lie in where to go fishing...
First, Choose what you want to target....Bass or Trout.
Second, Choose how you want to go after them.
Answering those two questions will help one decide WHERE to go fishing.
Quick help guide:
For Bass on the fly, popper or sub surface, hit Davis.
For Trout on dries, Fish the Callibaetis Hatch at East or Hosmer or Fish the Upper Deschutes with any dry pattern.
For Kokanee on the fly, Hit East with Callibaetis nymphs or chironomids as well as Crane Prairie.
For ENORMOUS Rainbows, Need you really ask???
Great Fishing!!!

FISHING: Excellent
FISHING SEASON is in FULL swing right now. Its simply a matter of choices, choices, choices...and that can pose a problem with limited fishing time. Dry Fly entusiasts should focus on the Upper Deschutes, East and Hosmer. Callibaetis are around in numbers. Beware of the biting bugs on the Upper D stretch. Wickiup and Paulinas Browns are always eager to engulf innocent bystanders. Crane continues to be Crane, producing Rainbows the dimensions most never thought existed. The Bass in Davis are willing slammers of flies raked across the surface.
This is Central Oregon Fishing...Get out there and enjoy it!!!!

RECORDED:
65 °
FISHING: Great
The season is certainly underway!!! The fishing is definitely improving as the weather cooperates and warms. Midges, as well as some callibaetis, are keeping the Rainbows occupied with eating. Scuds can also be a good choice in ones arsenal. Browns are prowling shorelines looking for innocent unsuspecting finned appetizers to fill their dinner plates. Best days to be on the water will be those days the wind isn't creating white caps. The fishing will continue to get better as we move into June. Thank you Lord for allowing us to work smack dab in the middle of stillwater paradise.

Fall is Here!!! Cold nights and Cool mornings are a reminder that Old man Winter is not far off. When ice freezes the line in your guides, you know that it's a tad bit on the cool side. Regardless, Fall fishing can be a beautiful time to experience Central Oregon. The air is crisp, the leaves are full of color and the fish are looking for that last chance to grab a meal before winter sets in. If you get the chance in the next few weeks, take some time to get out and experience Central Oregon's Magnificent Beauty!!!
